Our laboratory is located at the head office of Günther GmbH in Schwaig near Nürnberg where, for over 20 years now, temperature sensors are calibrated. In 2014 an important milestone has been reached when DAkkS (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle) accredited our calibration laboratory. The accreditation gives us the possibility to also perform calibrations according to official DAkkS standards.
The accreditation applies to the calibration of resistance thermometers and thermocouples in the temperature range of -80 °C to 1300 °C. The accreditation indicates that we use standardized measuring methods and that the calibration equipment is under constant control, in which all the reference elements and instruments are recalibrated annually by a higher certified laboratory.
It is also possible for us to provide factory calibrations up to 1550 °C.
DAkkS is the national accreditation agency of Germany. In the past Germany had multiple accreditation agencies for different kind of aspects like temperature, pressure, weight and such, but after January first 2010 these agencies were joined together in a new European Regulation. DAkkS has a legal mandate for the accreditation of conformity assessment agencies (laboratory, inspection and certification agencies) and is the only service provider for accreditation in Germany. Accreditation gives an unbiased confirmation that an agency works competently and according to regulations.
Calibration results are documented in a calibration certificate and the calibrated article gets a calibration tag. Depending on the customers wishes we can perform a DAkkS or a factory calibration. Factory calibrations can be performed in the temperature range -80 °C to 1550 °C. The certificate is a certificate 3.1 according to DIN EN 10204. In the guideline DAkkS-DKD-5_20101221_v1.2_0 is defined that DAkkS test certificates can only be made by accredited laboratory. This sets an uniform standard. The requirements of DAkkS-DKD-5 are binding for all calibration laboratories of the German accreditation agency. A complying calibration report meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2055 calibration certificates, and documents the traceability of SI units.

Thermometers are often calibrated in a comparison method against a reference-thermometer. This reference-thermometer is calibrated as a comparison-thermometer at fixed temperature values on the ITS-90 scale. A crucial condition for the comparison-method is that the thermometer that is going to be calibrated and the comparison-thermometer take on the same temperature as much as possible. Tempered calibration baths are an excellent measuring medium for this purpose. When it comes to higher temperatures, special calibration furnaces and dry block calibrators are used. At the Günther laboratory there are multiple mediums available such as dry block calibrators, tube furnaces and a liquid thermostat bath.
